Skin tags or acrochordons are small growths of excess skin that pose no medical threat. They are benign growths and normally flesh colored, although they can vary in pigmentation. The reason most people want to remove them is they normally occur in visible or awkward locations and lower self-esteem.
Removing skin tags is easy through various medical procedures. The normal procedures are:
1. Cauterization - this method effectively burns off the skin tag and can be performed in the surgery, usually without any anesthesia. This procedure would normally be carried out for smaller growths.
2. Cryosurgery - this is the opposite of cauterization as it involves freezing the skin tag with liquid nitrogen. Again, this is mainly suited to smaller growths.
3. Excision - this involves a scalpel or scissors and is more suitable for larger growths. Anesthesia is rarely used and the process only takes a few minutes.
4. Laser - this method is similar to cauterization as the cells around the skin tag are destroyed. It is more effective on smaller tags.
Each of the above methods is highly effective with results showing quickly. However, there is also a considerable cost associated with each method and there is no guarantee that a growth will not return in the same location in future. There are alternative home remedies to medical procedures that are just as effective, but much more cost efficient. Also these home remedies have little or no side effects. I am sure, You will get benefit form above effective treatment tips.
