So you want to become a model but you don't think you have what it takes because you are too fat, too old, too ugly, too short etc etc. When most people think of models they think of Kate Moss, Naomi Cambell, Carmen Kass, Heidi Klum, Elle McPherson and other famous "supermodels". There are also other famous models such as Pamela Anderson Isabeli Fontana, Natalia Vodianova, the list goes on and on. Yes these are all famous and beautiful women and obviously their looks played a major part in the work they do and the fame they achieved. If these women didn't look they way they do would they have become so famous and such big earners as models?, probably not but they could have still made a good living from modeling.

You are probably wondering how you could possibly make a living as a model, male or female, if you don't have a great body and drop dead gorgeous looks. Well the simple fact is that there is much much more to modeling than just cat walk, glamour or fashion.

How many times do you see adverts on TV for hair products, teeth, nails, hands, eyes etc, well these all had to have models to promote the product. Lets say you are not 6ft 2in tall and you do not have the best shaped face but you have the most amazing hair or maybe your teeth are dead straight and white as snow well then this is what you use to make a good living.

There is a famous drag queen in England called Lily Savage and the man behind her, Paul O'Grady actualy got the job of promoting Stockings for Pretty Polly. Now this is someone everyone knows is a man yet he was able to get the contract because he had amazing legs.
Everyone has the opportunity to become a model you just need to think outside the box and think about what attributes you have that could be used. How about feet, hands, bum, the list goes on and on so there is a market for most types of modeling.

OK so you have decided you have the best hands and nails around and feel you could get some work using them for modeling... where do you begin?, the first things is to find an agency and this can be tricky as there are a lot of people out there ready to scam you. Once you find a good agency they will be able to provide you with some photographers to get your portfolio together, again you need to be careful as you could easily get ripped off here as well. There is a lot involved and no one said it would be easy, nothing worth having is, but with the right help you can make a good living as a model. The only thing stopping you is, well...you.

With the current economic downturn, everyone is saving up and avoiding unnecessary spending. However, records have showed that during times of recession, there is actually an increase in the sales of lipsticks.

Why is this so? The lipstick is a cheap and affordable makeup tool which can easily transform your entire face. Not only can it brighten up your face, it can also help protect your lips from dryness and even ultraviolet rays from the sun.

In such cases, go for a lip liner that is the same color as the lipstick. If you are looking at more neutral shades, choose a lip liner that is close to your natural lip color.
Tip 3 Powder your lipstick with your foundation, press them onto a tissue and reapply them for better staying effects.
Tip 4 If you have stained teeth and yet to have time to go to the dentist, try using darker tones of reds, pinks or brown as they will make the teeth appear whiter.
Tip 5 Always bring your compact lipstick for touch-up on a dinner or party date.

Before you can help treat and adequately care for sensitive skin, you need to know whether your skin is actually sensitive. If your skin is breaks out in rashes, stings at the use of skincare products for normal skin, and is constantly irritated by skincare products and/or environmental factors, you probably have sensitive skin. Be Your Own Colorist

It's easier than you think. Our mistake-proof guide shows you step-by-step how to pick the perfect shade and apply it like a pro.

Think inside the box
Before you hit the hair-color aisle of your local drugstore, ask yourself: How much of a commitment am I willing to make? Then, pick a formula based on your comfort level. Semi-­permanent dye is like a spring-break fling: It rinses away after about 10 shampoos, so you won't be left with any of those nasty telltale roots. Since semi-perms don't use peroxide or ammonia, they can't lighten your hair or give you a drastic color trans­formation. They only deposit pigment, enhancing or adding depth to your current shade.
Want something a bit more serious? Go with demi-permanent. It contains low levels of ammonia, so it will stay in your hair longer and fade out over about 25 washes. A demi can take you, at most, one shade lighter or two shades darker; it can also change your hair's tone--from, say, a medium brown to a medium auburn.
If you're ready to commit to a serious color change, you want a permanent option. These dyes alter your shade with peroxide and ammonia, so the color will last until it gets cut or grows out. These formulas give you the most versatility in how you can alter your color, enabling you to achieve more dramatic results.

Find the right hue
For the most natural effect, stay within three shades of your natural color. "When in doubt, start lighter," says Rita Hazan, owner of Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. "If the shade isn't right, it's easier to go darker than lighter." For a bigger change--say, going from chestnut brown to wheat blonde--see a pro.
Another thing to consider: undertones. Just like your skin, your hair's got them (they're either warm or cool), and the peroxide in hair color will expose them. "Brunettes tend to have warm undertones, which is why they're often surprised by how red their hair turns after coloring-­especially when going lighter," says Lisa Evans, a colorist at Salon Mario Russo in Boston. If you're worried about your hair looking brassy, choose a cooler, ashier tone.
Another trick for forecasting how your hair will react to hair color, according to Eva Scrivo, owner of Eva Scrivo Salon in New York City: Take a look at your grade-school pictures. If your hair was a warm, honey blonde in second grade, there's a good chance it'll go warmer when you color it now. And if you were a cooler, ash blonde or brunette, dying or bleaching will probably reveal those undertones. It's important to keep that in mind before you try out a new shade on your own.

Deep-condition
You wouldn't slap a coat of paint on a cracked wall, right? So don't even think about applying color without conditioning. "If your hair is damaged, the pigment won't adhere well to your strands and it will end up looking streaky," says Nicolas Cornuot, spa director of Phyto Universe in New York City. "So at least one week before coloring, pamper your hair with a deep-­conditioning treatment." Think of it as spackling holes before painting--you're creating an even surface for the color to attach to. Giving your strands a dose of intense hydration also helps protect them from the harsh chemicals used in coloring so you can avoid fried, crispy ends.
And don't shampoo for a day or two before you color. "Your hair's natural oils will protect your scalp and prevent irritation," says Nathaniel Hawkins, a hair stylist for Tresemme. Don't worry about any styling products that are left in your hair--they won't affect the coloring process. If you do wash the day of, lather up with a gentle formula; strong detergents can irritate your scalp. Mix that with the chemicals in dye and you could end up with itching and burning.

Do your prep work
Coloring your hair is kind of like baking a souffle: If you don't pay careful attention to every step, you'll likely end up with a big hot mess. "I often hear about women who dye their hair when they're exhausted, in a hurry, or have had a couple glasses of wine," Scrivo says. "That's when mistakes happen. Always concentrate and take your time."
Before you even rip open the box, "apply a thin layer of Vaseline along your hairline--from earlobe to earlobe and along your neckline--to prevent the dye from staining your skin," advises Harry Josh, celebrity colorist and a creative consultant for the John Frieda Collection.
Next, mist the ends of your hair with water. "Since the tips of your hair tend to be dry and damaged, they can soak up too much color," says Jason Backe, the color director for Clairol. "Some extra moisture will help color go on more evenly and prevent the ends from turning out darker than the roots."

Ready, set, color!
Pull out a comb and divide your hair into quadrants: Make one part down the middle and another from ear to ear, then clip each section securely in place. Apply the color one section at a time. "This is an organized approach to working with color that prevents any section of your hair from 'taking a holiday,' which is colorist-speak for 'you missed a spot,'" says Chuck Hezekiah, a color expert for Garnier Nutrisse. Apply color from the roots to the ends, working it through with your gloved hands. As soon as you've applied color to the last strand, start the timer--most color takes about 20 minutes to develop.
After dying, hold off on shampooing for three days. "This will give the cuticles--which open during the coloring process--time to close and seal in the color molecules," Scrivo says. And watch the water temperature when you wash: "Hot water can cause cuticles to expand and open, allowing some of the color to escape. The cooler the rinse, the better," says David Stanko, a color consultant for Redken.

Get Tight, Sexy Legs With 3 Great Leg Exercises

Too often are the legs neglected in workout routines, leaving many women with tiny little chicken legs. Here are a few exercises to help you tone up your legs!

Calf Raises
Work out your lower legs with calf raises, probably one of the best ways to firm up your calves. Stand straight up, then slowly lift your body as if you are standing on your tippy toes. Slowly lower yourself and repeat. You should feel a strong burn in your calves within 20-25 reps.

Squats
Great for toning your thighs, squats can be hard to do if you're just getting started. Take it easy at first to make sure you don't hurt yourself!
Again from a standing position, lower yourself down as if you were going to sit down in a chair. Using your thighs, slowly return to a standing position. Keep your back as straight as possible the entire time.

Hip Swing
Another great upper leg exercise. This time, lie on one side, supporting yourself with the lower-side arm. Raise the high-side leg (if you're lying on your right side, raise the left leg) and point the toe away from your body. Slowly swing the leg forward until you can't move it without your hips moving, then slowly swing the leg as far back as possible. Repeat several times, then flip over and repeat with the other leg.

Like all exercises, the key to results is consistency. Even if you only do a few of each exercise, make sure to do them regularly and you'll soon notice firmer legs!

7 Healthy Foods to Improve Aging Skin

Achieve your beauty goals by focusing on these anti-aging skin tips! Aging skin can be improved with healthy foods, and yummy meals can keep you young and prevent premature aging (an upward spiral). Dr Julia Hunter of Skin Fitness Plus in Beverly Hills, California offers these food and skin tips.

7 Healthy Foods to Improve Aging Skin
1. Certain foods trigger premature aging. “Foods age us,” says Dr Hunter. Foods that detract from your appearance include simple and refined sugars, high glycemic carbs, refined, manufactured foods, hydrogenated fats, and artificial chemical additives. ”Those foods negatively impact the functioning of your thyroid gland - the master gland of the body - which ages you. Plus, those unhealthy foods make you tired and susceptible to diseases. They also impair the functioning of all the other organs in your body.” Unhealthy foods aren’t just bad for your waistline, they’re bad for your organs, glands, and hormones - and they don’t help you achieve your beauty goals.
2. Some foods cause allergic reactions. Dr Hunter says that some foods can trigger allergic reactions, which sometimes cause swollen and irritated cells in the lining of the gut. Other times, foods can cause full blown rashes, contribute to acne, make us feel bad, and disrupt our sleep. To improve aging skin and achieve your beauty goals, chart how you feel and look after eating certain foods, such as dairy or flour products - especially if you think you have a food allergy.
3. Inflammation makes you look old. “Food causes inflammation, which causes disease and aging,” says Dr Hunter. “Other things also contribute to inflammation, such as pollution, sunlight, radiation, stress, medications, and chemicals. Inflammation and glycation are the chemical processes that change our appearance.” She lists several effects of inflammation and age: dark circles under and around our eyes, brown “age” spots, rosacea (abnormal blood vessels), thin skin, hair loss, bags under your eyes, crinkles, wrinkles, jowls, loose eyelids, and everything falling toward the ground! But don’t lose heart: there are healthy foods that improve aging skin and help you achieve your beauty goals.
4. Lack of collagen triggers premature aging. “Aging is collagen failure. People who restrict their calories decrease their inflammation, so they age less quickly. People who take many and varied antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and who keep their hormone producing organs functioning at a robust, healthy level age much less quickly,” says Dr Hunter. “In fact, they seem to stop aging.” Foods that keep you young include supplements (vitamins and minerals, for example) to make sure that your body is functioning optimally.
5. Healthy oils fight wrinkles. Olive oil, hemp, flaxseed, borage, black currants, raw coconut and omega-3’s from fish all help “juice” up the skin and make you look young. Avocado, nuts, and wild salmon are healthy foods that improve aging skin and help you achieve your beauty goals.
6. Water improves your appearance. “We all dry up as we get older, which contributes to fine lines and helps gravity.” Dr Hunter is working with a major water company to encourage people to drink more therapeutic bottled water. “We must drink water, and it’s best to drink one or two liters per day,” she says. Dr Hunter recommends adding a green tea bag or green powders to water, or drinking organic whole leaf aloe juice (one to two ounces per day). These green wonders decrease aging, laxity, and brown spots. Green tea and aloe juice also increase clarity and skin tightness all over your body. The nutrients in green tea, green powders, and aloe juice also decrease aging of the internal organs, including the brain - and they also decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s. So, your appearance, health, and body vitality are all closely intertwined!
7. The greener, the better. Dr Hunter’s mantra is “Green, green and more green!” She recommends eating foods as close to nature as possible - healthy foods that improve aging skin. Eat red meat not more than once a week, and enjoy lean proteins such as turkey, wild fish (not farm raised because they don’t have the same nutrients), black beans, red beans, wild or brown rice (not white), and nuts. The foods that keep you young are the same as those that keep you healthy: whole foods, with as little processing as possible - which will help you achieve your beauty goals.

“Your appearance is affected by the internal effects of the foods you eat,” says Dr Hunter. Your diet affects much more than your weight; it affects your skin, hair, and overall appearance!

Ugly Truth About Cheap Skin Care Products

Let's face it, if you buy cheap skin care products, you will find that the ingredients are mostly petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin and other fillers, lots of artificial preservatives and fragrances, but nothing that is really good for your skin's health or appearance. Is that really what you want?

You would be better off using plain soap and water for cleaning and olive oil or another type of vegetable oil for moisturizing. If you want to protect your appearance for the rest of your life, you need more than this. But, if your budget is tight and you are looking for an inexpensive skincare routine, nothing beats soap, water and vegetable oil.

Doesn't vegetable oil feel greasy? No, it is quickly and rapidly absorbed into the skin's layers. Petrolatum and mineral oil feel greasy, because they are not readily absorbed. They simply sit on the skin's surface, clogging the pores and interfering with natural rejuvenation processes.

Don't you need an exfoliants or scrub? Not if you're going to use cheap skin care products. They are too harsh and can do a lot of minor damage that adds up over time to make your skin look older. If you feel that you need a scrub, use colloidal oatmeal. It is inexpensive and non-irritating.

What about astringents or toners? They are mostly petroleum-based alcohols, like ethanol and methanol. They may feel like they are "doing" something, but what they actually do is change your skin's pH balance, which can lead to the appearance of heavily pigmented areas, fungal infections and age spots.

If you want something to protect your appearance from the effects of time, don't shop for cheap skin care products. Safe and effective anti-aging ingredients are expensive. You don't have to spend $200 on a tiny tube, but you do have to spend more than a few bucks. The best anti-aging day cream, for example, costs about $30 and it is worth every penny.

The ingredients were special chosen for their ability to reverse the visible signs of age. They address the three main causes of skin aging; loss of collagen and elastin, lower levels of hyaluronic acid and oxidation through the action of free radicals.

There are several compounds that are known to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The most effective one is CYNERGY TK. The compound contains protein and tiny amounts of copper and zinc. Protein bound to zinc and copper has been shown to stimulate the production of new skin cells. In clinical trials, creams containing CYNERGY TK have caused an increase in skin cell proliferation of over 150%.

There are no cheap skin care products that can do that sort of thing. To protect hyaluronic acid from degrading, extracts from Wakame kelp are needed. To prevent oxidation, antioxidants are needed. The best antioxidant compound is HEQ10, a special formulation of vitamin E and coenzyme Q10.

3 Things You Must Know When Choose Body Creams

I've been seriously researching skin care products for fifteen years. I've always had dry skin, and I've used dozens of body moisturizing creams in an effort to moisten those patches of skin that tend to get especially dry, like my heels, elbows, and knees. Step Six - Repeat the process until your whole hair has become fully straight.
Step Seven - Put a small amount of a styling product on your straightened hair to extend the life of your hairdo. You can opt to use a hairspray, mousse or gel.

Some things to remember:
1. The base of your hair needs more amount of heat than the hair ends.
2. Use low temperature if your hair is thin, color-treated or have been previously damaged.

The Mistake -Proof Guide Of Coloring Your Hair

--Think inside the box
Before you hit the hair-color aisle of your local drugstore, ask yourself: How much of a commitment am I willing to make? Then, pick a formula based on your comfort level. Semi-­permanent dye is like a spring-break fling: It rinses away after about 10 shampoos, so you won't be left with any of those nasty telltale roots. Since semi-perms don't use peroxide or ammonia, they can't lighten your hair or give you a drastic color trans­formation. They only deposit pigment, enhancing or adding depth to your current shade.

Want something a bit more serious? Go with demi-permanent. It contains low levels of ammonia, so it will stay in your hair longer and fade out over about 25 washes. A demi can take you, at most, one shade lighter or two shades darker; it can also change your hair's tone--from, say, a medium brown to a medium auburn.

If you're ready to commit to a serious color change, you want a permanent option. These dyes alter your shade with peroxide and ammonia, so the color will last until it gets cut or grows out. These formulas give you the most versatility in how you can alter your color, enabling you to achieve more dramatic results.

--Find the right hue
For the most natural effect, stay within three shades of your natural color. "When in doubt, start lighter," says Rita Hazan, owner of Rita Hazan Salon in New York City. "If the shade isn't right, it's easier to go darker than lighter." For a bigger change--say, going from chestnut brown to wheat blonde--see a pro.

If your hair was a warm, honey blonde in second grade, there's a good chance it'll go warmer when you color it now. And if you were a cooler, ash blonde or brunette, dying or bleaching will probably reveal those undertones. It's important to keep that in mind before you try out a new shade on your own.

--Deep-condition
You wouldn't slap a coat of paint on a cracked wall, right? So don't even think about applying color without conditioning. "If your hair is damaged, the pigment won't adhere well to your strands and it will end up looking streaky," says Nicolas Cornuot, spa director of Phyto Universe in New York City. "So at least one week before coloring, pamper your hair with a deep-­conditioning treatment." Think of it as spackling holes before painting--you're creating an even surface for the color to attach to. Giving your strands a dose of intense hydration also helps protect them from the harsh chemicals used in coloring so you can avoid fried, crispy ends.

And don't shampoo for a day or two before you color. "Your hair's natural oils will protect your scalp and prevent irritation," says Nathaniel Hawkins, a hair stylist for Tresemme. Don't worry about any styling products that are left in your hair--they won't affect the coloring process. If you do wash the day of, lather up with a gentle formula; strong detergents can irritate your scalp. Mix that with the chemicals in dye and you could end up with itching and burning.

--Do your prep work
Coloring your hair is kind of like baking a souffle: If you don't pay careful attention to every step, you'll likely end up with a big hot mess. "I often hear about women who dye their hair when they're exhausted, in a hurry, or have had a couple glasses of wine," Scrivo says. "That's when mistakes happen. Always concentrate and take your time."

Before you even rip open the box, "apply a thin layer of Vaseline along your hairline--from earlobe to earlobe and along your neckline--to prevent the dye from staining your skin," advises Harry Josh, celebrity colorist and a creative consultant for the John Frieda Collection.
Next, mist the ends of your hair with water. "Since the tips of your hair tend to be dry and damaged, they can soak up too much color," says Jason Backe, the color director for Clairol. "Some extra moisture will help color go on more evenly and prevent the ends from turning out darker than the roots."

--Ready, set, color!
Pull out a comb and divide your hair into quadrants: Make one part down the middle and another from ear to ear, then clip each section securely in place. Apply the color one section at a time. "This is an organized approach to working with color that prevents any section of your hair from 'taking a holiday,' which is colorist-speak for 'you missed a spot,'" says Chuck Hezekiah, a color expert for Garnier Nutrisse. Apply color from the roots to the ends, working it through with your gloved hands. As soon as you've applied color to the last strand, start the timer--most color takes about 20 minutes to develop.

After dying, hold off on shampooing for three days. "This will give the cuticles--which open during the coloring process--time to close and seal in the color molecules," Scrivo says. And watch the water temperature when you wash: "Hot water can cause cuticles to expand and open, allowing some of the color to escape. The cooler the rinse, the better," says David Stanko, a color consultant for Redken.

How to remove callouses on hands

A callus is a thickening or hardening of the skin. They form as a result of friction or pressure against the skin. In general, calluses are normal and natural. They are part of the body’s defense system. For example, Since they have never walked, infants have very tender feet. They have no calluses. But adults often have hard, even horny calluses. People that are frequently barefoot may develop calluses on their feet that are as thick and hard as leather.

Calluses on the hands form as a result of pressure or friction, just like calluses on the feet. Guitar players, manual laborers and gardeners all know about calluses on the hands. Archers sometimes develop thick calluses on the first three fingers of their dominant hand. That’s the hand that pulls the bow back and looses the string. Of course, like any other natural process, it can go farther than we’d like. When calluses get too thick they can interfere with sensitivity and dexterity. It can be like wearing a thick pair of leather gloves at all times. Just the way thick calluses make hands look can motivate some people to remove their calluses. And no one wants to touch a loved one’s sensitive skin with rough, hard hands.

Never try to remove calluses by cutting or slicing without medical supervision. The risk of infection is too great. Besides, there are easier, less painful ways to remove a callus.

The first step in removing a callus is to soften it. You can do this as simply as soaking in the bath for a while, or by rubbing moisturizing cream into your hands. If your callus is relatively thin, moisturizing may be all that’s needed. Simply keep it moist, rub it a little and in a few days it will be gone. For thicker and harder calluses, you may have to use a pumice stone or sandpaper to sand it down. Under no circumstances should you cut or shave a callus. If your callus is so thick and hard that sandpaper and moisturizers will not soften it, you should see a medical professional.

The best way to remove a callus on the hand is to avoid it. Since calluses on the hands are simply the result of friction or pressure, they can be easily avoided by wearing gloves, or by avoiding work!

When you work with hand tools like shovels, rakes, hoes, etc. a good pair of work gloves is your best defense against calluses. Proper fit is important, since an ill-fitting glove may rub and cause more calluses than it avoids. Of course, a daily moisturizer couldn’t hurt!
